Terms of Service

Last updated: September 27, 2026

These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your use of the Sophia app and website. By creating an account or using Sophia, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use Sophia.

You can contact us at hello@bytexy.com. The Contact section below names the operator of Sophia.

The service

Sophia builds private, AI-generated learning courses from topics, prompts, and sources you provide. Because courses are generated by AI, they may contain errors, omissions, or outdated information. Course content is provided for general learning only, is not guaranteed to be accurate or complete, and is not professional advice (legal, medical, financial, or otherwise). Always verify anything important against an authoritative source.

Your account

You must provide accurate information and keep your account secure. Each person may claim the one-time free-credit grant only once; the grant is tied to a verified email address and duplicate claims are prevented. Abuse, including attempts to obtain free credits fraudulently, circumvent limits, or misuse the service, may result in suspension or termination of your account.

Subscriptions and credits

Sophia runs on credits. A curriculum Preview costs 15 credits, and generating a course costs 10 credits per planned lesson. Courses built from large sources, such as videos, cost additional credits. The credits each course used appear in your usage history once it finishes.

  • Monthly plans. The Basic, Plus, Pro, and Max plans are auto-renewing monthly subscriptions that grant a set number of credits on each successful billing cycle. Prices, taxes, and currency are shown and collected by the App Store or Google Play for your region.
  • Subscription-credit expiry. Credits granted by a subscription expire at the end of the following monthly billing period. You always have the current cycle plus the next to use them. The exact upcoming amounts and dates are shown in the app’s Usage screen.
  • Top-up packs. Top-up credit packs never expire. A top-up requires an active paid subscription and must match your current plan tier; it adds credits but does not change or extend your subscription. If a subscription payment is refunded, we apply any remaining top-up credits on the account against the credits already used from that subscription; the rest is recorded as a balance to settle before new work.
  • Free credits. Free-grant credits never expire.
  • Nature of credits. Credits are for use in Sophia only. They have no cash value, cannot be redeemed for money, cannot be transferred between accounts, and are non-refundable except where required by law.
  • Billing and cancellation. All billing is handled by the Apple App Store or Google Play. You can cancel at any time in your store subscription settings; cancellation stops future renewals but does not change the expiry of credits you already have. Deleting your Sophia account does not cancel a store subscription. Cancel it separately in the store.

Generating a course

Generation never starts on its own. It begins only when you explicitly start it, and only when your account has the full quoted number of credits available and no outstanding debt. If your balance is short, generation is blocked until you add enough credits or raise your plan.

  • Once a generation starts, it is guaranteed to run to completion for the credits it quoted. Running out of credits mid-generation will never stop or fail it, and any internal cost beyond the quoted credits is absorbed by us. You are never billed more than the quote.
  • If a generation fails for a provider, safety, or system reason, any credits reserved but not yet consumed are released back to you automatically. Credits already consumed by lessons that succeeded remain charged, pending support review.
  • A course is readable only once every planned lesson is generated successfully. A delivered Preview stays charged even if you discard the draft, and so does a Preview you cancel or change after it starts reading a video.

Refunds and reports

If something goes wrong with a generated course, you can submit a report or a refund request from within the app. Refund requests are reviewed by support. They do not change your balance or access automatically.

  • If support approves a refund, the credits consumed by that course are restored to your account and your access to the refunded course is revoked. Restored credits expire two calendar months after approval.
  • Store-level refunds and chargebacks are different: when Apple or Google reverses a purchase, we claw back the value it granted. If those credits were already used, the unrecovered amount becomes account debt, which blocks new generation until it is repaid.

Sharing courses

Where sharing is available in your version of the app, you can share a course you built to the Community section of Explore, where other members can find it, preview it, and save a copy. A shared course shows its text and its card under the first name on your account when you shared it. Files you uploaded are never shared, and a course built from uploaded files cannot be shared.

  • Licence. When you share a course, you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host it, show it in Explore, and let other members copy it into their libraries. Copies saved while the course was shared keep this licence after you unshare it.
  • Your rights in what you share. By sharing a course, you confirm that you hold the rights needed to share everything you supplied to build it, including text you pasted and the content behind links you gave as sources, and that sharing it breaks no law and no one else’s rights. A page being public does not by itself give you the right to share a course built from it. You will cover any claim, loss, or cost we face because a course you shared broke this promise.
  • Unsharing. You can unshare a course at any time, and it leaves Explore straight away. Copies other members already saved stay in their libraries. Only a removal by Sophia reaches those copies.
  • Account deletion. Deleting your account removes your shared courses from Explore. Copies other members saved before that stay theirs.
  • No tolerance for objectionable content or abuse. We screen every course when it is shared, and we remove any shared course that is illegal, infringes someone’s rights, targets people with hate or harassment, is sexual or pornographic, exposes a private person’s data, or exists to advertise rather than teach. When we remove a shared course, every copy members saved from it is removed too and shows as removed in their libraries. A second confirmed removal for infringement suspends sharing for your account. We may suspend sharing straight away for abuse of other members.
  • Reporting a shared course. In the app, open the course in Explore and choose Report course from its menu. Anyone, with or without a Sophia account, can instead email hello@bytexy.com. Tell us which course, where in it the problem is, what is wrong with it, and your name and email address, and confirm that you believe your report is accurate and complete. For a copyright notice, also tell us what you own and why you believe the course infringes it. A person reviews every report within 24 hours.
  • Removal notice. If we remove your course, your library shows what we removed and why. To contest, email hello@bytexy.com. A person reviews your message and answers you.

Access and changes

We may revoke access to specific generated content as described above, and we may change, suspend, or discontinue parts of the service over time. We may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these Terms or abuse the service.

Disclaimers and limitation of liability

Sophia is provided “as is,” without warranties of any kind, to the fullest extent permitted by law. To the extent permitted by law, our total liability to you for any claim relating to the service is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim arose. Nothing in these Terms limits any rights you have that cannot be limited under applicable law.

Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Netherlands, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. This does not remove any mandatory consumer-protection rights you have under the law of your country of residence.

Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms as the service evolves. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date above. Continued use of Sophia after changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms.
